Page 1 of 3 The Beginning, a message from Pastor Vince: Pastor Vincent Rosato is a minister ordained by the Southeast Alabama Presbyter. In 1986, he was called to be the minister of a small rural church, Friendship Presbyterian PCA, in Hope Hull, Alabama. This was not only a small church but a very old church. It‘s congregation had either died out or moved away until there was only 11 members left. Some Sundays, he found himself preaching only to his wife.
Pastor Vince continued to pray though he began to be discouraged. However, in 1996 the Lord in His divine providence opened a door for him to preach one night a week at The Faith Rescue Mission, a local homeless shelter and soup kitchen. “I really felt a burden for these men, and I wanted to do more. I fell in love with this ministry and when the director resigned I was asked by the acting director if I could preach more than one night a week. I volunteered to preach whenever he needed me, and soon I was preaching three nights a week. It was about this time that I really started to feel a great responsibility to help these less fortunate people. I prayed that the Lord would make me director of Faith Rescue, but this wasn’t His plan. I had noticed that Faith Rescue did not have a Sunday service so I asked for and received permission to take some of the homeless to Friendship. Thus began a journey orchestrated by God and carried out by men that is still ongoing today.” Vince and his wife, Mary, brought the men to church and held a fellowship supper. At first the men were reluctant to come but he noticed how the food was a great motivator to get them to come. The number of men grew each week until Vince’s car soon wasn’t big enough to fit them all. “I borrowed Mary Virginia’s (my wife’s) van and then there came a week when there were fifteen men wanting to come to Friendship. I was very excited but the excitement was tinged with sadness as I had to leave four men behind because my van only held eleven. The next week I drove the car and Mary drove the van and no one was left out. I knew then that it was time to take the next step and purchase a van. I began to ask God to lead me to a fifteen passenger van. I was soon contacted by the First Methodist in Prattville. I took out a loan for $2500.00 and became the owner of Friendship Mission's first van. These were exciting days. I finally had a congregation to which to deliver God's message.” |
